9 Predictions For Chris Jericho's AEW Mystery Partners
6. Marty Scurll
Marty Scurll's contract status left him marooned in Ring Of Honor upon the formation of All Elite Wrestling.
Acknowledged by the Elite with an inspired sight gag in-joke on the Being The Elite credits - and by the man himself with his "All my friends are dead" social media schtick - this could open up a more serious narrative possibility in the coming months.
Scurll could debut as a heel ally of Chris Jericho's on the TV debut in the role of mystery partner, citing his exile as motivation to betray his old brothers. Alternatively, the Elite is no longer the faction Scurll joined. Corporate glad-handers, the new complexion of the group is inconsistent with Scurll's very nature as a 'Villain'. There are several absorbing storyline possibilities to explore for what is an expected development: Scurll, when he becomes a free agent, seems destined to join AEW. ROH has allowed him to flourish stateside, but it's telling that he isn't their World Champion, and Matt Taven is. Scurll's deal is also up this year - but the precise date is not known.
AEW can offer a comparable salary to WWE, his friends are there, and the network TV deal offers him the chance to make serious, immediate money, as compared to the lower-paying, NXT proving ground.
A super-gimmicked, excellent worker, a performer of Scurll's quality is needed, too.
