9 Reasons Steve Austin Was Better In WWE Than Hulk Hogan
3. He Was Better In The Ring
It would be impossible to argue that Stone Cold is a top tier technician inside the squared circle, so I won't do that. But I will go on record saying that Austin could work circles around Hogan.
Austin, especially prior to his neck injury in 1997, was a damn good wrestler. In fact, it wasn't uncharacteristic of him to go flying off the top rope a handful of times in each match back then. Of course, after the infamous botched piledriver, the Rattlesnake was forced to change his style into the more bare bones, brawling style he became known for.
But even then, Stone Cold became one of the best brawlers in the business, expertly working elements of his character into his move set. He wasn't just out there throwing punches for the sake of throwing punches, he was telling a story with his fists.
Hulk Hogan...not so much. Although he did tell a story in his matches, it was always the exact same story. He'd come out strong, get beaten down in the middle, Hulk Up to bring the crowd back into it, and drop the leg to retain the championship. His move set was as basic as they come, relying entirely on elementary throws and strikes (and back rakes) between poses.
Their wrestling styles may have shared similarities, but there should be no doubt that Austin used his arsenal much more effectively.
