What better way to take us into the Show of Shows than with the bonafide Shock of Shocks. Make no mistake whatsoever, despite how strong he's looked on TV the last few weeks, if Finn Bálor beats Brock Lesnar at the Royal Rumble it would be one of the biggest title match upsets in the history of the company.

The recent resurgence of the inaugural Universal Champion has felt right to so many fans. Bálor is excellent, and his lowly position in the mid-card has somehow only strengthened fan resolve to support him both in and out of the ring. Regardless, WWE still don't quite see him as one of their "top guys" and his match at the Rumble - undoubtedly his biggest since he won the belt in the first place - could well prove to be little more than a stopgap.

Could.

Whatever the talk coming out of the production truck or from the offices in Stamford, Bálor is still in that championship match. Bálor is still, in effect, one big win away from being the Universal Champion heading into WrestleMania. All it would take to sit him that high up in the company, is for people to be wrong about the outcome on Sunday. A solitary three-count against a want-away UFC-bound part-timer. That's all it would take.

We're told it's a "new era" here in WWE, where fans will see more of what they like and less of what they don't. Finn Bálor as Universal Champion heading towards a dream match at WrestleMania does, categorically, fit that brief.
