9 Things GFW Must Do Better Than Impact

8. Find Someone To Build Around

While fans often complain about WWE’s formula of finding a top babyface, turning them into a superhero, and running with them for years, it’s been a money-making venture for Vince McMahon. Steve Austin, Hulk Hogan, and John Cena have all made the promotion a ton of money while cast in the role of supreme hero. Over in TNA, they have never, ever tried to emulate that approach.

As good as A.J. Styles and Samoa Joe were in TNA, they were never pushed like a Cena, or even someone at a Batista level. Both of the TNA originals possibly could have excelled in the role but were never given the opportunity. The closest the company has ever come to someone like that was Kurt Angle. Unfortunately, because of his many turns over the years, his WWE cast-off status, and overly comedic nature, he could never be the No. 1 guy for them.

Due to years of poor booking, there really isn’t a lot of options for GFW at the moment. Still, they need to try. Perhaps bring back Magnus once again, turn him face, and see what he has in him. Maybe keep pushing Alberto El Patron as the top act by giving him a series of monster heels to knock down one-by-one. Eli Drake has the making of a star and could possibly deliver at that level in the future. Or maybe roll the dice and give the vastly underutilized Trevor Lee a massive push in the coming year and just see what happens. What do they have to lose?

Impact has had a lot of strong supporting players, but they badly need someone who fans can finally point to as being a true GFW star.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
