9 Things Nobody Wants To Admit About CM Punk's UFC Debut

1. Whether Punk Likes It Or Not - It Is A Publicity Stunt

Make no mistake, CM Punk is not treating his MMA venture like a publicity stunt. Because to him, it's not one. To the UFC, however, it very much is a publicity stunt. That's why they signed the popular wrestler. That's why they announced that signing immediately (or near enough) rather than letting him prepare for his martial arts debut away from the spotlight. It's all about publicity, about getting more mainstream press coverage and eyeballs on the sport, and if you think otherwise, than you're rather naive about the business of MMA, and particularly, the UFC. That doesn't mean Punk won't be successful, or doesn't have his heart in it. He will hopefully make the best of the situation, but at the end of the day, Punk has really just traded the devil he knew for one he didn't, and he may learn the hard way that his name value only goes so far in the sport.
