9 Things Nobody Wants To Admit About CM Punk's UFC Debut

2. The UFC Does Not Have His Best Interest In Mind

If you think the UFC has Punk's best interests in mind by letting him live out his MMA dream on the largest of stages, think again. The organization is thinking of its pocketbook, and nothing more. Which means that, when the chips are down, the UFC will turn on him, cut ties, claim the blown experiment (if it is blown) was all Punk's doing, etc. It won't be pretty. It never is. Think this is an exaggeration? Georges St. Pierre was and still is the greatest welterweight of all time. Stories of him simply considering a return to action get more notice than the current welterweight division, one of the sport's most popular weight classes. Yet when GSP left the UFC, Dana White absolutely trashed him. He continues to trash him, claiming his heart isn't in the sport, all because the champion had the audacity to walk away while still champ (the UFC does not like it when fighters do this, because it paints whoever becomes the next champion as less than the best). GSP was one of the biggest draws the sport ever saw, and helped bring it into the mainstream as a fighter who was respectful, loved around the world, and dominant in the cage. Punk doesn't have any of that going for him, so you think the promotion will think twice about throwing him under the bus?
