9 Things We Learned From NJPW Dominion 6.19

6. It Is Possible To Make Exciting Wrestling Incredibly Dull

On paper, the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team division is incredibly exciting. Going into Dominion, the champions were the thrilling team of Ricochet and Matt Sydal (Evan Bourne). They faced three challengers at Dominion, the teams of Roppongi Vice (Berretta and Rocky Romero), reDRagon (Kyle O'Reilly and Bobby Fish) and The Young Bucks. Sounds great, right?

Well, the action itself was great, but followers of NJPW have seen so many four-way matches for these titles that they have all began to blend into each other. The eight men flip around a lot, it is all very exciting for a brief moment before being forgotten once it is over. The inevitability of such matches at New Japan shows has passed the point of depression.

The Young Bucks won here, but the titles have been hot potatoes for longer than any championship that is supposed to be treasured should be. The last 10 reigns have seen a combined total of four successful defences, and there hasn't been a single successful defence in 2016.

The Young Bucks won here to pick up their record fifth set of IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships, but at this point the belts are politely pointless.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
