Things aren't much better in the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championship world. The Briscoe Brothers won the straps at Dominion, defeating The Guerrillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa), ending the underwhelming tag reign of the Bullet Club affiliates.

This division has been stale as hell for a number of years now. When Togi Makabe and Tomoaki Honma (Great Bash Heel) win the titles from Anderson and Gallows at Wrestle Kingdom 10, there was hope that a corner could be turned. Some new teams could take part in the division, and we could move past the 'Bullet Club holds the titles' trope.

Sure, the Briscoes winning does freshen things up a little, but their first challengers seem to be Hangman Page and Yujiro Takahashi of Bullet Club. BC's continued presence in the division is bad enough, but Yujiro? Count me out.

The New Japan tag scene needs a complete reboot at this point.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
