9 Things We May Never See In WWE Again
7. Custom Pay-Per-View Set-ups
Time to sound like a grumpy old man now because, 'back in the day', we used to see all kinds of fantastic stages and set-ups used for WWE’s many different pay-per-view events.
Some personal highlights include those huge swinging scythes that were once the trademark of Backlash, the giant throne used for the 2001 King of the Ring and the taxi-laden customised MSG set set of the 2000 Royal Rumble.
These days though, WrestleMania is really the only show of the year that sees any kind of differentiation. It had looked like that might change at SummerSlam this year when new stage design was implemented, but that same design was then basically regurgitated for the new SmackDown set, and the recent Backlash show then pretty much mimicked that set-up also.
Even if we are seeing subtle changes here and there, it’s a far cry from the days that the entire set was completely revamped in accordance with the theme of the PPV itself. Simply put, the rigours of touring, and presumably the costs of bringing in these fancy customised set-ups, mean that we’re unlikely to be seeing new designs tailor-made for each PPV theme.
