Onto a more light-hearted note here, but something that WWE are just as vigilant in eradicating; certain words from the wrestling lexicon.
It’s become something of an infamous bug bear of Vince McMahon over the years that he doesn’t like certain words and phrases uttered his regard to his WWE product. For instance, a championship title is never a strap, despite the fact that it bears all the resemblance in the world to one. And an in-ring performer is a sports entertainer as opposed to a professional wrestler, despite the fact that they are, you know, still professional wrestlers at the end of the day.
Then again, it’s not quite as bad as it used to be. Back in 2008, phrases such as “house show” or “faction” or even “feud” were on Vince’s list of lexical no-no’s, which must have made it rather difficult to explain certain aspects of the show.
He may have relaxed on certain instances, but even so, whether due to branding purposes or simply Vince’s peculiar pedantry, there are a select pool of words that we may never again hear uttered on WWE programming.
