9 Things We May Never See In WWE Again
2. Chair Shots To The Head
Back to the issue of safety now, with what has been perhaps the most important safety measure ever implemented by WWE; the eradication of unprotected chair shots to the head.
Back in the ‘90s and early 2000s, crushing chair shots delivered to the skull were commonplace in pro wrestling. In hindsight, that sounds absolutely ridiculous, as these shots were one of the few things in wrestling that weren’t gimmicked in one way or another.
The result? Concussions, and lots of them.
So in early 2010, WWE decreed that it would be “eliminating the use of folding chairs or props to strike an opponent in the head.” The punishment would be a “fine and/or suspension” for “any blow to the head that is deemed an intentional act”.
Of course, much like the aforementioned piledrivers, we’ve seen the odd exception to this ruling, most notably in the form of Triple H and the Undertaker at WrestleMania XXVII. But even so, both men were fined as a result of their misdemeanours, suggesting that this is a ban that WWE takes rather more seriously than others.
Thankfully, it means we’ve probably seen our last unprotected chair shot to the head in WWE.
