Despite Punk’s awesome run with the Straight Edge Society and despite establishing himself as what he deemed to be the best heel in the company, the office still didn’t quite share his level of enthusiasm.

With WrestleMania XXVII on the horizon, it soon became apparent that Punk was going to be overlooked for a spot in the main event. Instead, he had to watch on as John Cena challenged the Miz for the WWE Championship - a great heel in his own right but one that Punk clearly deemed himself superior to.

Again, Punk responded in the best way possible by stepping up to the plate and delivering a top performance in his eventual grudge match with Randy Orton. Other than the Triple H vs. Undertaker showdown, this was probably the best match of the night, and it was certainly better than the Cena vs. Miz show-closer.

It seemed that Punk had again proved the movers and shakers wrong, but it wasn’t just his match with Orton that the main event snub would be used as motivation for…
