9 Times WWE Killed A Popular Star In Less Than 60 Days
2. Bray Wyatt
Windham Rotunda’s success with the Bray Wyatt gimmick was down to almost fanatical commitment to the role and his sheer charisma on the stick, not to mention the presence of two hulking backwoods psychopaths on his side. So naturally the office recognised that the character was doing well and chose to split the stable. What bloody cult leader doesn’t have a cult to command?!
Wyatt floundered ever since. He ended up in completely worthless feuds with Chris Jericho, Dean Ambrose, and even The Undertaker - none of which did anything for his character whatsoever. Without any clear direction, his character gradually became insufferable, incoherently babbling each week with absolutely nothing substantiating his gibberish. The Wyatt Family eventually reformed in 2015 in a rare bout of WWE humility, but the damage had long since been done. Even an unexpected WWE title reign at the head of 2016 did nothing for the man, only serving to offer up the absolute worst match of an already patchy WrestleMania 33.
Things have only devolved further since. An abysmal feud opposite Matt Hardy eventually seemed to come around when the pair started teaming, but Hardy's sudden retirement put paid to that. Wyatt, as he was in 2014, remains rudderless.
