9 Times WWE's WrestleMania Main Event Was The Worst Match On The Card
6. WrestleMania 27: The Rock Prolongs The Agony

Stop the presses if you’ve heard this one before: The Miz beat John Cena in the main event of WrestleMania.
That’s a real thing that happened, and while the statement alone is enough to make modern fans groan, the actual execution of this abomination is worse.
WrestleMania 27 is not a highly regarded show, though most of the matches trended toward decent-to-average. The rule-proving exceptions on the undercard were Michael Cole versus Jerry Lawler (a “match” that always was going to border on farce) and Triple H versus Undertaker, which was part of the Deadman’s string of outstanding Mania matches protecting The Streak.
That brings the show to the climax, with a not-ready-for-primetime Miz defending against Cena and needing Alex Riley, an exposed turnbuckle and a ref bump to stay in the match. This underwhelming match got worse when they fought to the outside and into the crowd, where both men were counted out. Yep, WWE booked a double count-out in the main event of WrestleMania.
…Only they didn’t.
Cue The Rock, serving as the host of the show. He used his powers to restart the match, turn on Cena, and help Miz retain the title. And then the Great One beat up the WWE Champion to stand tall. That is some horrific booking. Yes, it set up Rock/Cena for the following year’s Mania, but completely ruining that year’s Mania conclusion and leaving fans with a bad taste in their mouths just to sell them on the following year is madness.
