9 Ugliest Belts In WWE History

2. Light Heavyweight Championship (1997)

As the unsettling Fabulous Moolah Women's Championship and jeer-inducing Universal 'Jampionship' have almost definitively proved, red wrestling belts simply do not work. Case in the point: the 'original' design of WWE's second incarnation of the Light Heavyweight Championship, as modelled here by Taka Michinoku following his 1997 tournament victory over Brian Christopher.

Making the strap several degrees less attractive than it already was are the hideous plates depicting WWE's 'New Generation' logo - the only company belt to do so, and just months before they'd informally begin phasing out the branding. The red belt was eventually replaced with a black strap more befitting the company's gritty new Attitude though the lightweight title still looked distinctly, well, lightweight.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
