9 Unhinged R-Truth Skits That Had You Doubting His Sanity
6. The Madison Square Garden Pigeons Promo
Survivor Series 2011 saw Awesome Truth, the brilliant but short-lived tag team of R-Truth and the Miz, take on The Rock and John Cena in one of WWE's traditional can-these-opponents-coexist angles that literally no one has ever, ever cared about. Seriously, if Wrestler X and Wrestler Y have a match coming up, I want to be given reasons to pay to see the two of them pound each other into piles of unhappy crap. I do not want to see seven different variations on them being bad tag team partners to each other. Why would anyone want to see that? How does that sell an upcoming big match? Anyway. On the night, the Miz and Truth cut an interview backstage hyping up their, frankly, non-existent chances of winning against the two biggest babyfaces in the company. That's when we were gifted with this golden moment in promo history: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtK-j0boCY8 The Madison Square Garden crowd actually gave Truth a legitimate standing ovation on that one... but the unsung hero of the promo is Matt Striker. If you play it again and watch properly, in the beat after the set-up when Truth says "You know what those pigeons said?" you see an intimidated Matt Striker reluctantly take back the mic and whisper a perfect pigeon impression in response, before Truth cuts back in with the actual punchline.
