9 Unofficial WWE Royal Rumbles
7. 30-Man Royal Rumble (New York City - 17/1/94)
Wrestling fans in 1994 - at least, a small section of them - got to watch two Royal Rumbles in the space of one week. Indeed, in addition to the main course, co-won by Bret Hart and Lex Luger, they also got a special preview at Madison Square Garden six days earlier.
Like all great Rumbles, this one featured a full 30 competitors, among them Bret's little brother Owen, who ultimately won the thing after eliminating a young Rikishi, in the days before the latter had made a name for himself by wrestling in a revealing thong.
Little else about it is known, apart from the fact that - if the fan-recorded clips that made it to YouTube are anything to go by - it featured an inordinate number of botches, including one where Scott Steiner dropped Diesel right on his head.
As we'll see in a moment, WWE would repeat the 'two Rumbles in one week' trick a decade later. This time, however, they sensibly put the unofficial one on second, apparently learning that risking injury to top stars on the eve of one of your biggest shows of the year is a bad idea.
