9 Ups & 1 Down For AEW Collision (Dec 16 - Results & Review)
Down...
1. Continuing To Beat A Dead Horse
Yes, old man shouts at clouds, yada, yada, yada, but...
While it was funny for the first few weeks, Roddy Strong's shtick of screaming people's first names has long, long become tired. In Strong, you've got an exceptional professional wrestler and someone who's finally getting a little more comfortable with a microphone, but the shouting gimmick is nowadays like hearing that so-so-at-best dad joke for the 37th time.
Clearly Roddy - and Matt Taven and Mike Bennett, for that matter - is in a holding pattern while the Devil saga unravels, yet there's far better things to have Strong doing than, in this case, screaming Komander's name in a backstage segment.
Adding to the frustration, it looked as if Komander might be getting some promo time for a dose of much-needed character development. So far, Komander is just one of the masked luchadores who has a few fun high-energy spots and whom Tony Khan puts on either AEW or ROH TV as and when he needs a body. What do we know about Komander, and why should we care about him? Here, Lexy Nair was about to get some words from Komander, only for those words to be immediately cut off by Roderick Strong.
Roddy vs. Komander should be absolutely fine, but this whole segment was just more of the same old lame joke from Strong, whilst not exactly doing anything for Komander.
