9 Ups & 1 Down From AEW Dynamite (30 Mar)
4. CM Punk Sets His Goals
It speaks to how over Max Caster is that what he was going to say about the Chris Rock/Will Smith incident was one of the most anticipated things on last night's show. In the end, the Acclaimed man dropped it in his very first bar:-
"I'm like Will Smith, I'll slap you with you smiling / but you look like you hit more rocks than Hunter Biden."
The ensuring match was solid rather than spectacular. Punk always rewards his audience for paying attention and did that by selling cumulative back damage from last week's clash with Dax Harwood, giving Caster something to target. After Max had escaped the early grappling exchanges, countering a cross body into a backbreaker, he built himself an advantage beyond heel skullduggery, though he ended up tapping out via Anaconda Vice after missing the mic drop.
All of this was an appetiser for a typically great post-match promo from Punk, whose gaze is now firmly set on the AEW World Title. Old greybeard is coming for the belt, regardless of who triumphs when Hangman Page and Adam Cole meet, promising that by the time he is done with AEW, he'll have held its top prize.
We know this would be the direction after last week's gesticulations, but that didn't make the moment feel any less right.
