9 Ups & 1 Down From AEW Dynamite (5 Jan - Review)

7. The Gunns Host FTR's Funeral

Last night's "funeral" for FTR was perfect for the Gunns' brand of goofy sports entertainment.

It was good heel fodder, as Dax Harwood and Cash Wilder would either still be in Japan or travelling home after competing at Wrestle Kingdom 17 earlier in the day. The Gunns would have known this when puffing themselves up and pulling the entrance music fake-out. It's nothing new or novel, but it remains effective midcard heel material, particularly when the antagonists are as downright irritating, in character, as Colten and Austin.

Austin and Colten spoke well, too. Their performances fit their roles as they walked out to sombre music, adopted a similar tone, then revelled in their rivals' apparent demise. "Top Guys out," they said. A great line after declaring themselves the new Living Legends and the best tag team in the world.
