9 Ups & 1 Down From AEW Dynamite (8 Sep)

2. Deliciously Cheap Heat

In wrestling, the low-hanging fruit is sometimes the most delicious fruit, as proven by MJF in one of the year's hottest segments so far.

MJF was on fire in Cincinnati. He considers himself a victim of injustice after the events of All Out, where his win over Chris Jericho was cancelled out as a result of AEW's "extreme bias" against him. Then, having got the pay-per-view out of his system, The Pinnacle's leader started ranting against the city, its sports teams, its chilli, and other "cheap" topics.

And it was brilliant. Cincinnati treated MJF like the worst guy in the universe as he tore their sacred cows to pieces.

Targeting Linda Pillman, the undisputed MVP of Dark Side of the Ring's third season, put even more heat on MJF and babyfaced Brian Pillman Jr., who emerged as his aunt's saviour. This didn't stop MJF from calling BPJ's mother "Methanie" and a hot brawl ensued, with Griff Garrison taken down as well.

MJF negged Wardlow in all of this, ripping his beefer for being unable to stop his All Out loss. This led to slight hesitation from Wardlow in saving MJF when Pillman Jr. sprung the attack, which keeps that storyline rolling as well.

A great way to elevate Pillman Jr. a notch in his hometown and continue to present MJF as an irredeemable bastard of a man, this also established AEW's first Athur Ashe Stadium match, with Brian and Maxwell going one-on-one. Furthermore, it stands as a great example of how to utilise somebody in their hometown. Pillman Jr. was put down without being made to look stupid - and he's getting a big match out of it as well.
