9 Ups & 1 Down From AEW Dynamite (Sep 16)

1. All Out War

Chuck Taylor
AEW

Let's forget about the tonal shift for a minute, because Best Friends vs. Santana and Ortiz was the best "hardcore" match AEW has pulled off since launch.

This thing was out of control. Surrounded by cars and screaming, rabid onlookers, these four wrestlers destroyed each other. Bodies were smashed onto hoods and into flatbeds. Ortiz was sandwiched between a hood and an engine, then squashed as Trent and Chuck Taylor leapt off with sentons. Satana was bloodied within minutes. Recovering, Ortiz launched a sledgehammer at Taylor with such force that it may have killed him had it connected, though it missed, smashing a windshield in the process. Trent was then suplexed onto the roof of the same car with such force that said windshield literally exploded.

A gross, ghoulish, knockdown fight, this left the surrounding area looking like a warzone. The beef felt real. For long stretches, it was as if these guys were fighting to maim, not to win, and though they suffered greatly for their art (Trent's back was a mess after taking a double powerbomb through glass), their art was worth it.

One of the best television matches you'll see all year.
