9 Ups & 2 Downs From AEW Dynamite (15 Sep)

Ups...

9. Jade's Biggest Test

Jade Cargill
AEW

The most substantial singles match of Jade Cargill's young career played out last night, as Leyla Hirsch forced her to sell for short periods, tying the bigger wrestler up in submissions and looking to use her smaller frame as an advantage.

When not attempting double-legs, Leyla was a projectile, hurtling around the ring and into Cargill. It was an interesting change of gears for Jade, who has competed almost exclusively in squashes so far. She isn't somebody who's going to have to work from the bottom all the time and still ended up controlling the majority of the bout, but her defensive work was convincing enough to sell the peril of Leyla winning.

Leyla didn't win in the end, falling via Jaded after a snapping pump kick to the face. There was no wrong outcome here, though. Cargill and Mark Sterling went in on Leyla hard in the build-up, suggesting comeuppance may be afoot, but having Hirsch lose broke the recent AEW trend of hometown/state wrestlers only soaring on their soil too.
