9 Ups & 2 Downs From AEW Dynamite (Oct 21)

3. Jungle Boy Enters Orbit

Last night was the truest test of where Wardlow is as a developing prospect - and he passed with flying colours.

Wardlow was impressive against Cody, but it's hard to analyse his individual performance too deeply when he was in there with one of the best big match performers in the world. Similarly, his Luchasaurus bout was loads of fun, but full of smoke and mirrors.

Having excelled in quick squashes on Dark, Wardlow got to flex against Jungle Boy. This was a very encouraging performance from both men. Jungle Boy literally bounced off his beefier opponent a couple of times, eventually opting to try and chop him down rather than barrel through him, while MJF's heavy was an incredible base. An early peak saw him catch Jungle Boy diving off the apron and powerbomb him into the ring post. Later, he kept up, hit the top rope, then got reversed into a Hurricanrana in an astonishing display of agility and poise.

An F10 from outside the ring onto the canvas effectively ended Jungle Boy's night, though Wardlow hit another on the inside for good measure. The Jurassic Express man got so much air he may still be floating around somewhere in the stratosphere.

It's time to mark Wardlow as one of AEW's most promising up-and-comers. He's right there with guys like Jungle Boy, but totally different in every way, pulling his straps and twitching his oiled-up pecs like he walked straight out of the WCW Power Plant 20 years ago.
