9 Ups & 2 Downs From AEW Dynamite (Oct 21)

1. Le Dinner Debonair

Le Dinner Debonair Chris Jericho MJF
AEW

This was an expertly performed and conceived segment and one of the most unique things you'll see on pro-wrestling television all year. MJF and Chris Jericho killed their version of "My Shadow and Me", delivering the closest thing to musical theatre this sport could possibly conceive, having tailored the lyrics to feature barbs at almost every prominent babyface in the promotion.

The tone, however, is subjectively concerning. This was equal parts silly and showy. There's nothing wrong with that in a bubble, but it has taken what could be a huge, impactful, promotion-shaking storyline and added an air of flippancy. We're moving closer to a resolution in the MJF/Inner Circle saga at the moment but it's hard to invest with any degree of severity when the tone is so light.

Of course, this is in the eye of the beholder. Compartmentalised, this was a positive. The opening sequence with Jericho and MJF trying to one-up each other with their steak orders, leading to them literally ordering inedible beef, was a deft touch and in line with everything we've seen from them so far. Also, MJF has one hell of a singing voice. Who'd have known?

This isn't a condemnation, but an acknowledgement that Le Dinner Debonair wasn't for this columnist. A turn towards more serious territory in next week's Town Hall Meeting would be appreciated.
