9 Ups & 2 Downs From IMPACT Wrestling (23 Sep)
1. A Colossal Mess
Rich Swann was the IMPACT World Champion literally five months ago; why is he overjoyed at pinning VSK?
Swann and Willie Mack vs. Brian Myers and VSK, the newest member of Myers' Learning Tree stable, was almost an Up. It was fine for a while. VSK was actually highly impressive in this bout, executing an innovative baseball slide German suplex to Rich that deserves more attention than it's received. His sell for Swann's Superkick worked gorgeously, also.
The ending is where it gets iffy. So colossally iffy that it derailed the entire match.
Willie Mack counteracted Brian Myers' attempted interference before Sam Beale tried to interfere himself, shoving Rich Swann from atop the turnbuckles. He landed directly on VSK in a Crossbody position, pinning him for the three.
Literally nobody cared. There was no crowd reaction as the pin was made, making the referee's three-count sound like he was slapping the piss out of the mat. Swann treated this as if he'd regained the World Title. A guy of his stature shouldn't be providing these reactions to these matches, regardless of the style of character he portrays. It didn't work, there wasn't a point in the match anyway, and Brian Myers appears to be heading back to nothingness. Sweet.
