9 Ups & 3 Downs From AEW Dynamite (6 Oct)
8. RETRIBUTION Attack Darby Allin
A surprise to see RETRIBUTION on last night's episode of Dynamite, as Slapjack, T-Bar, and the other mask-clad goons beat Darby Allin down backstage, dropping him on guardrails and choking him with a skateboard in a brutal angle.
The disguises were an odd idea, given that The Pinnacle were immediately identifiable as Allin's assailants. Nonetheless, this was a suitably ugly assault after Allin had poured further sympathy upon himself in a sitdown interview with Jim Ross, in which he retold the story about his uncle perishing as a drunk driver while he was in the car with him, hence why half of his face is permanently covered in corpse paint.
Sandwiched between the developments in the MJF feud was an effectively TV squash pitting Allin against Nick Comoroto. A simple story of Allin using his superior speed, aggression, and propulsiveness to foil the bigger man was told well. Comoroto controlled Darby through the break but had been caught off-guard by a pre-bell dive and eventually fell to the Coffin Drop.
