9 Ups & 3 Downs From Impact Wrestling (Aug 11)

1. Face The Facts

The third of Eddie Edwards’ World Championship open challenges actually saw him demand a specific challenger in mind in the form of Eric Young, but instead of ‘The World Class Maniac’, he was met by the ‘debuting’ (actually returning) Brian Myers. Myers’ previous stint in Impact saw he and Trevor Lee capture the World Tag Team Championships from Eddie and Davey Richards.

A bit of a slower contest for the first two thirds of the bout, minus a suicide dive here and a DDT there, but once things properly heated up later on, you could just tell that Myers fits right in with Impact’s roster. His evasion of the Boston Knee Party saw him duck down, which is the simplest way to avoid such a move, but it was appealing to the eyes nonetheless, which is perhaps far more important.

The signature knee strike of Eddie Edwards saw him again succeed in defending his title. The more important story here is obviously Brian Myers. While you could easily argue that he shouldn’t have lost his first match in an Impact ring, his debut was for the World Championship.

Even in defeat, you can’t take anything away from that fact.
