9 Ups & 3 Downs From Impact Wrestling (Nov 3)
3. A World Class Alliance
Eric Young and Sami Callihan on the same team. More of this, please. 'The World Class Maniac' and 'The Draw' joined forces in last night's main event to battle two men they both have history with, Eddie Edwards and Rich Swann. Between them, there are six World Championship reigns, including the one Swann is currently in the middle of. It's an impressive statistic. As for the match? A little slow in places, but still a solid encounter.
What made it that extra bit fantastic were the subtleties throughout. Because of the history between them, all four men have become accustomed to what each other brings to the table. For example, 'EY' attempted his trademark flip over the ropes, charge across the apron, climb the next turnbuckle spot, the last part of which was prevented by some of Eddie's strikes. It's a little addition, but it certainly helped the flow of the match go more evenly.
Some interference from Ken Shamrock at the match's conclusion - during which he sent the top of Swann's head into the steel steps in a nasty looking moment - led to Sami's Cactus Special piledriver on Eddie to seal a win. He and Young had went for dual piledrivers not long before, which was countered with dual submissions from Edwards and Swann. Again, another little touch that helped the match flow.
Seeing Eric Young, Sami Callihan, and Ken Shamrock standing tall together to end the show was a sight that your viewer could certainly get used to. Impact is missing that strong stable at the moment. This could easily be fixed, so long as the trio remain a unit going forward.
