9 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Full Gear 2022

3. Erm…Referee?

AEW Full Gear 2022 Kenny Omega PAC

This might be a case of trying to apply logic to an illogical situation, but here goes. Though true referee Rick Knox had to lay out for most of the Trios Match because psychology takes a holiday in those frantic clashes, that doesn't excuse one of the silliest misses AEW fans have witnessed in a while.

Kenny Omega's foot was clearly underneath that bottom rope during PAC's submission, and yet Knox didn't call it. Maybe this writer is missing some easy rule in these trios bouts. If so, apologies. However, Excalibur himself said that Kenny's foot "didn't break the plane of the ropes", so Knox couldn't make the call.

It bloody well did, mate.

Little moments like this can be infuriating, and they take people out of the moment. It would've been easier to excuse the Rick's hammer-related blindness during the finish without him blatantly ignoring Omega's rope break moments earlier.
