9 Ups & 4 Downs From Impact Wrestling (Feb 25)
3. No Lying, No Cheating, No Stealing
In these columns, it's been a common theme for someone (most notably Michael Elgin and Eddie Edwards) finding themselves in the Downs for essentially repeating the same statements over and over. That's more or less what Jordynne Grace did this week while being interviewed by Gabby Loren, but somehow, she made it impactful.
The new Knockouts Champion talked about how she retained the gold against Havok at Sacrifice, furthering her statement that she's going to be a fighting champion while she's on top of the division. While you could easily class this as a rehash of her previous statement upon her (finally) capturing the gold, the fact that she compared herself to previous champ Taya Valkyrie made it that extra bit more special.
'Wera Loca' used loophole after loophole, cheap tactic after cheap tactic to ensure her reign as the champion lasted for as long as it did. 'Thicc Mama Pump', on the other hand, will use her expertise as a wrestler to make sure her first reign as champion is a lengthy one. Some things don't need to be over the top to develop a character and/or story arc.
They just need to make sense.
