9 Ups & 4 Downs From Impact Wrestling (Sep 22)

2. Starting Strong

The decision to start this week's Impact Wrestling with the X Division Championship situation was the best option possible out of the announced line-up. There was no denying that TJP vs. Chris Bey vs. Trey Miguel was going to be a terrific match, and with the added bonus of a championship match straight after, there wasn't much to hate on here.

With Rohit Raju stationed at ringside, all three potential challengers went above and beyond to earn the championship opportunity against 'The Desi Hitman', with a mixture of arsenals on offer. Miguel opted for a high-flying nature, being caught mid-flight at one point with a Chris Bey cutter, whereas TJP cinched in a number of submissions throughout. These varied strategies made for an overall entertaining bout, with Raju's barking at ringside actually adding something to the match as opposed to detracting from it.

In the end, it would be Trey who earned the opportunity, tweaking his knee in the process by the looks of things. Ever the opportunist, Rohit pounced on 'The Fresh Prince of Mid-Air', grabbing a hold of the tights essentially right after the bell to ensure a quick championship defence.

This column was rather critical of Rohit's tactics as champion last week, seeing as he was offering up title shots like they were nothing. However, everything here proved this writer wrong. We saw a fantastic match, and Rohit continued his run as X Division Champion, albeit through nefarious means. He hasn't exactly solved any issues with the three men in question, but that's a problem for next week.
