9 Ups And 2 Downs From WWE Raw (June 2)
6. The Weak Link
Regardless of personal feelings about the competence of the IIconics, let’s give credit to their strategy of going after Nikki Cross, who would be the weak link of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.
Cross’ character arc has seen her as a doubting underdog fighting to find her footing before befriending Alexa Bliss. Everyone assumed this was leading to a Bliss turn on her teammate, but months later, they’re still friends and Alexa defends Nikki regularly. That hasn’t stopped the IIconics from verbally thrashing Cross last week as undeserving of being a champion.
But Monday, Cross lost clean to Billie Kay, which presumably would set up a tag title match between the two teams. It also cast more doubt on Nikki – and possibly Alexa – about Cross’ ability to hold up her end of the team. That could factor into a title match, which would be interesting if it’s followed up on well.
Of course, the downside is that the beneficiaries of this potentially would be the IIconics, whose first tag title reign was the definition of a waste of time.
