9 Ups And 4 Downs From WWE Raw (Feb 3)
2. Latino Stars Shine
It’s hard to believe that the same writers who gave us Lucha House Party also is suddenly giving us a nicely constructed rivalry between several Latino stars that could bear fruit for the next several weeks.
Angel Garza made his Raw debut Monday night, confronting his cousin Humberto Carrillo for attacking and putting Andrade on the shelf. Garza, with Zelina Vega at his side, talked down to Carrillo, saying he was the leader of their family and called Humberto a disgrace. Angel then attacked Carrillo, before Rey Mysterio saved.
This triggered a match between the two that ended in a DQ when Garza hit a DDT on the exposed concrete. Just like that, you can envision a rivalry between the four (when Andrade returns) that can carry through WrestleMania 36. It also gave Carrillo, who has struggled to connect with fans, something to play off of, as just having an arrogant cousin slapping him around helps tremendously.
Mysterio is of course the lynchpin to all of this. He’s a Latino legend, and fans are deeply connected to him. Having Rey involved helps immensely, and if executed correctly, we could finally see some Latino stars gain traction in WWE.
