6. A Rare 24/7 Misfire

It’s still a little early, but Elias as 24/7 Champion doesn’t seem to be clicking.

Elias is an entertaining act – when he’s not serving as Shane McMahon’s flunky – but his turn “defending” the 24/7 Championship against R-Truth Monday night was flatter than his singing. Truth disguised himself as a roadie handing the troubadour a guitar, leading to a series of unsuccessful pinfall attempts.

After Truth grabbed a guitar to swing at Elias, the champ bailed, ending the segment without a title change. It just felt like a brief segment to have one on Raw, which is not what the 24/7 title defenses have been. They’ve been a highlight of the show, often creative and entertaining.

This wasn’t bad, but it certainly wasn’t on par with some of the other 24/7 segments we’ve seen during the past couple months. Hopefully it’ll rebound next week.
