Maybe it was the total lack of reaction. Maybe it was the total breakdown in the match. Maybe it was the sudden ending to the contest. Maybe it was the puppets.

But the Bray Wyatt/Braun Strowman match for the WWE Universal Championship fell flat in the waning moments when Braun donned his old black sheep mask, leading to Wyatt halting his attack and embracing his adversary. However, it was all a ruse, as Braun removed the mask, crushed it and then powerslammed Wyatt for the easy win.

It’s understandable what they were going for here, with Bray heavily referencing their history together, how Strowman started out in the Wyatt Family several years ago. But in that moment, which played out to complete silence, it just didn’t work. The announcers tried to play up Braun beating Wyatt at his own mindgames – which is true – but it just didn’t hit.

Of course, some will disagree and say it was perfectly executed, but it just didn’t feel right.
