In November and December this past year, ratings for WWE Raw were the lowest in years. There were many reasons for the ratings to be as low as they were: increased competition from Monday Night Football, John Cena's hiatus, Randy Orton's injury, and other factors. But a big reason for the ratings decline was that the product was pretty stale. Nothing much was happening on Raw each week, and the big events were being saved for the Pay Per Views in an effort to drive up WWE Network viewership. Raw's viewership was collateral damage. When ratings got as low as they did, there had to be a change in the product. Over the past few weeks, the WWE has made some changes to its product that has mirrored a bygone era where ratings soared through the roof: the Attitude Era. Now, the WWE is still PG, and there are elements of the Attitude Era that just won't make it on television, such as blood, overt sexuality, and cursing (although a few curses do slip through the cracks every now and then). Still, there are 9 other aspects of the Attitude Era that seem to be showing in the product over the past few weeks.
9. Wrestlers Are Going Through Tables On The Regular
A major staple of the Attitude Era involved wrestlers going through the announce table. It was expected that once every Raw, somebody would be going through a table. As WWE got more PG, the frequency of guys going through tables tapered off a bit. Now, it seems that one of the big rivalries in WWE is completely centered around guys going through a table. The Dean Ambrose/Kevin Owens Intercontinental Title rivalry began with Owens putting Ambrose through a table last Monday on Raw. Ambrose then returned the favor by putting Owens through a table this past week on Raw. It remains to be seen if more tables are going to get broken over the next few weeks.
