9 Ways WWE Changed As A Result Of Eddie Guerrero's Death

4. The Signature Pharmacy Scandal

Oh boy, the Signature Pharmacy scandal. This one was messy. Two months after the Benoit tragedy, the bad news just kept on rolling for WWE, as many of the company's current and former stars were implicated in a huge steroid scandal. Around twenty people linked to the company were named by Sports Illustrated as having illegally bought performance-enhancing drugs via an online pharmacy. Whoops. Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit's names were on that list. Of course, Eddie's supposed usage predated the implementation of the Wellness Policy, but Benoit was found to have received packages from Signature between December 2005 and July 2006. Other top WWE stars, such as Edge and Randy Orton, were also outed as ordering the drugs after the Wellness Policy came into effect. The upshot was that WWE had to suspend about ten performers, depleting their roster. The Signature Pharmacy scandal was a result of the Benoit tragedy, yes, but it wouldn't have been the big deal that it was were it not for the Wellness Policy, which was brought in as a reaction to Eddie Guerrero's death.
