9 Worst WCW Pay-Per-Views Of All Time

6. Starrcade 1997

...Or the one with the most anti-climactic dream match of all time.

When you talk about wasted opportunities, you have to talk about Starrcade 1997. In the year leading up to this event, Eric Bischoff had actually allowed the Sting vs. Hogan angle plenty of room to breathe.

Sting's transformation into his Crow persona was the most carefully-constructed, intense development to happen under Bischoff's reign.

And the payoff looked to be so sweet. Finally, Hollywood Hogan would get his grand comeuppance from the brooding face of WCW. And finally the WCW Championship would go back to a superstar worthy of carrying it.

Except...NOPE. Hogan puts a beating down on Sting for much of the match, and scores the pinfall after dropping the big leg on him. Then, for some reason, Bret Hart comes out and reverses the decision saying the ref made a fast count. Which he didn't.

One very predictable - if nonsensical - allusion to the Montreal Screwjob later, and Sting won the belt again. Kind of. He'd have to face Hogan in a rematch later to make it valid.

Also, just to put this out there, Bret Hart had just made his dramatic jump from WWE to WCW...to be the special guest referee. Well played, guys.

The rest of the card was "meh" at best, with several matches looking flabby and shoddily-executed. Honestly, the best match on this card was probably Eddie Guerrero vs. Dean Malenko, which started the night off.

This is decidedly not how your version of WrestleMania is supposed to go down, WCW.
