2005 was a seismic year for WWE Hall of Famer Edge.

It was in this twelve months that he started to really define himself as one of the company's next top main event stars, winning the first ever Money in the Bank ladder match at WrestleMania 21 and joining forces with his real-life girlfriend Lita to become one of the most hated acts in the company.

However, this new on-screen relationship had actually caused quite the rift backstage, as it was revealed a few months earlier that Lita and Edge had been having an affair whilst the former was still involved in a relationship with Matt Hardy. The former Team Extreme member was even released by WWE due to his online response to their secret relationship, but was later brought back to the company to feud with Edge.

Yet, though Hardy was understandably p*ssed off by the whole situation, he wasn't the only one.

It was reported by PWTorch that, at the time, nobody wanted to be seen 'being friendly' with Edge - apart from his close circle of friends - because he had 'so much heat with the boys' and the Rated 'R' couple even kept their distance from each other backstage for a spell in an attempt to pacify the situation.

Edge and Hardy would go on to use the real life animosity to create a seriously compelling feud, but the rivals would eventually reconcile later down the road and both went on to forge successful singles careers in the ring.
