Im the Boogeyman, and Im comin to get ya! That was the signature phrase of the completely off-the-wall character known as the Boogeyman. He was essentially a straight-up horror movie monster. Donning facepaint, a clock necklace, and carrying a staff that spewed smoke, the Boogeyman was a terrifying figure if you were seven years old. The Boogeymans backstory is complex simply because his mere existence in WWE was so strange. It was a character that seemed more fit for an earlier era of wrestling, when the company could get away with gimmicks like that. As a matter of fact, the Boogeyman character was quite similar to that of Papa Shango. The freakish, nightmare-inducing Boogeyman often gyrated and shook wildly while making his way down to the ring. He also frequently recited nursery rhymes before shouting his signature catchphrase and smashing a clock on his head. To top it all off, the gruesome character would often eat worms -- and not just one or two, but huge handfuls of them. After defeating his opponent, the Boogeyman would then spit the chewed up worms onto his opponent. Like other figures on this list, the Boogeyman was a polarizing and controversial character. He was often used as a sort of bizarre comic relief and shock value. Furthermore, he was a gimmick straight out of the early 90s cartoonish era of WWE.
