9 Wrestling Personalities Killed Off In Mainstream Wrestling Storylines
3. Road Warrior Hawk
In one of the more tasteless storylines to come out of the Attitude Era -- which is really saying something -- Michael Hegstrand, better known to WWE fans as Hawk from the Road Warriors/Legion of Doom, had his real life drug problems tossed into Vince McMahon's Script-O-Matic. What came out the other end was a prime example of why real life tragedy should never find its way into a wrestling storyline.
The basic concept was that Hawk's recurring substance abuse was dragging down the Legion of Doom in the ring, and so Droz was brought in as a pseudo-substitute who would occasionally help bail Animal out of tight situations. When Droz eventually became a legitimate member of LOD, it pushed Hawk to the brink.
On an episode of Raw, a drunken, erratic, street-clothed Hawk climbed to the top of the TitanTron and basically threatened to kill himself. In an ill-conceived attempt to "help" him, Droz climbed the edifice and appeared to try reasoning with him. And then, supposedly out of jealousy or opportunism, Droz proceeded to push him off the Tron, and for all intents and purposes "killing" him.
J.R. sold it as if this was a real accident not unlike the Owen Hart incident that would occur just months later. Truly tasteless stuff.
