9 WWE Royal Rumble Tropes That Have Been Perfected

8. The One Man Wrecking Crew - Kane (2001)

Royal Rumble 2001 Kane
WWE

Sticking with the 2001 Rumble, that match absolutely belonged to Kane. Roman Reigns may have broken the record for most eliminations, but the Big Red Monster set that tally in this match in a most organic way. Where Reigns’ number was buffed by luck and timing, Kane decimated all and sundry in front of him.

Kane entered the match at number six, lasting all the way until the very end. The first portion of the match was absolute garbage (literally, after Al Snow threw some bins into the ring), but Kane outlasted all the head shots and nonsense by eliminating Raven, Snow, Perry Saturn, Steve Blackman, Grandmaster Sexay and The Honky Tonk Man. Five more men fell at the hand of the Devil’s Favourite Demon.

The Big Red Monster was the obvious star of one of the most star-studded Royal Rumbles in history, lasting 53 minutes and eliminating 11 men in dominant fashion. Whenever anyone obliterates the competition as such, Kane’s name will always be brought up.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
