It seems Kevin Owens simply doesn't give a fig about his place in WWE anymore. Not only did KO ridicule the promotion's slapdash 'Wild Card' rule during a recent episode of SmackDown with a throwaway jibe, but he outright lambasted it during a sit-down interview earlier this week.

In the one instance, it could have just been a case of Owens' character taking a pot-shot against management - he's prone to, dependent upon the phase of the moon - but in the other, it's the man himself directly criticising his employers.

All that is but a trifle compared to the Canadian's principled refusal to travel to Jeddah last month for the latest in WWE's deplorable trips to Saudi Arabia. Sure, all talent were given the option, but with the tacit understanding that absenteeism would likely cause censure. Owens, sticking to his ethics, could not have cared less.

The only thing stopping The Prizefighter alighting in the morally sound surrounds of AEW this autumn is likely a contract that keeps him tied to WWE until 2023. We're sure Owens would love to link up with fellow Canadians Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho on TNT, but he's entirely bound to WWE at present.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
