AEW Makes Big Changes To World Title Booking Plans (AEW News)

AEW boss Tony Khan seemingly shelves pay-per-view plans in favour of Dynamite.

The Wrestling Observer has revealed that MJF vs. Kenny Omega for the AEW World Title was originally supposed to take place at the brand new Redemption pay-per-view in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on 26 July. However, boss Tony Khan has elected to put the bout on the upcoming 8 July 'Beach Break' edition of Dynamite instead.

Post-flagship this week, both Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez discussed this switch by noting that the title collision was going to be on the PPV. Nobody's quite sure why Khan has decided to change his mind and promote the match on free television; those eager to see MJF vs. Omega won't be complaining though.

Alvarez did note that this decision was made "fairly recently". The pair were also in the dark as to why Konosuke Takeshita vs. Kyle Fletcher for the AEW International Title will happen on Dynamite rather than Redemption as well. Thus far, Redemption only has one match announced: Thekla will defend her AEW Women's Title against the winner of a Casino Gauntlet bout.

Going in, the stipulation for MJF vs. Omega states that the latter can't challenge for the gold again should he lose. For reference, Friedman is currently 2-0 against Kenny, but it looks like Omega will win to line up a tasty confrontation with Will Ospreay at All In on 30 August.

That event takes place inside London, England's cavernous Wembley Stadium, and it's going to be a big deal for Ospreay whether it's MJF or Omega he faces in the UK.

All eyes on this coming Wednesday then.
