AEW's Next Big Thing (... Is The Last Thing YOU Want)

Goldberg Sting
WWE.com

The sprint face run becomes a sprint heel climax overnight.

Goldberg could rip through Darby Allin or Jungle Boy in matches that would cast him as a money-grabbing interloper but would be too awesome not to book. Are you suggesting you don't want to see what Goldberg Vs a Rey Fenix, both members of Top Flight or Bandido looks like? Goldberg refusing to take any of Orange Cassidy's sh*t?! Goldberg Vs Danhausen?! Goldberg and two heels vs The Elite to build to an impossibly great Goldberg/Kenny Omega showdown? Off the back of those and others like them, the increasingly infuriated Goldberg could try and be the one to retire Sting amidst a slew of wrestlers and fans that desperately don't want to see the 64-year-old walk away.

As effective as much of his WWE run was, there were times when the former Universal Champion was booked as something of a spirit crusher. Victories over Kevin Owens, Dolph Ziggler and especially The Fiend cast him as a weapon used by Vince McMahon to destroy everybody's hopes and dreams. AEW thankfully doesn't carry that burden with fan-friendly Tony Khan at the helm, but Goldberg the character could easily own it himself. Khan could tweet his regret over signing him, drawing on their old friendship and how 'Da Man' broke a gentleman's agreement by turning on the company's ethos and breaking everybody's hearts.

By losing to Sting, Goldberg could see the error of his ways and use a handshake/hug moment to realise the error and misplaced direction of his anger. From there, he can conclude business with the company losing to either Wardlow or Powerhouse Hobbs in a passing-the-torch exhibition, and ride off into the sunset, arc completed.

Where's the bad on-paper combination? Where's the wasted loss? Where's the net negative? Because the positives are everywhere you look.
