2. Scandal Storyline with John Cena: November 2012
Perhaps the lowest point of AJ Lee's WWE career came in the final few months of 2012, after she resigned as Raw General Manager but before she aligned with Dolph Ziggler. During that time frame, she was involved in an extremely stupid storyline where she was accused of being in a scandal with John Cena. This came about after Vickie Guerrero revealed "evidence" of the two sleeping together in addition to phoney calls and text messages. Despite denying the claim against them, Cena and AJ did show interest for each other at one point with them locking lips on more than one occasion. The footage of them at a hotel and the recorded phone calls were horrifically put together and made for terrible television. And while they were obviously fake, it was never confirmed as WWE never bothered to tie up their loose ends with the angle before moving on to the next thing. It was hard to suspend disbelief that AJ and Cena would be partaking in something so scandalous, and it really couldn't have been any more of a blatant rip-off of the Claire Lynch storyline from TNA.
