Could AJ Lee be about to return to WWE? Maybe...

For those watching WWE Clash in Paris yesterday, that Premium Live Event closed out with Seth Rollins standing tall as the World Heavyweight Champion, having fended off the threat of CM Punk, Jey Uso, and LA Knight. However, Rollins required a little bit of help here, with Becky Lynch - fresh off beating Nikki Bella to retain her Women's Intercontinental Championship earlier in the night - making a surprise appearance to hit a low blow on Punk, allowing for Seth to hit the Second City Saint with a Curb Stomp for the 1-2-3.

While that throws up plenty of questions about Lynch and whether she's now a formal member of the Vision, those events have also led to plentiful speculation that this could all be setting up a WWE return for AJ Lee. On top of that, the Clash in Paris post-show saw AJ namedropped, as CM Punk was seen taking a close-up look at a "PUNK BRING BACK AJ LEE" sign as he made his way to the back following that Clash main event.

On the topic of AJ Lee, Fightful Select reports that AJ's name has been brought up in "numerous" pitches in WWE lately. Following last night's Becky Lynch interference, WWE sources told Fightful they were hopeful that the pitches they've been hearing about were in relation to AJ returning alongside Punk to battle Lynch and Rollins. Additionally, the outlet was told that some of the pitches for AJ Lee weren't shut down in quite the same way they previously had been.

Fightful also reiterated that they cannot outright confirm that AJ Lee is heading back to WWE, but WWE sources have indicated that there has been a lot more traction on that matter than in prior years.

As for AJ, it's now over ten years since she last wrestled, with that being on the Raw after WrestleMania 31, where the former Divas Champion teamed with Paige and Naomi to pick up a win over Natalya and the Bella Twins. Lee would announce her retirement from the ring one month later, at the time citing damage to her cervical spine, and there was also the small matter of the ongoing issues between CM Punk and WWE at that time, with Punk having left the company a year earlier.

Where an in-ring return is concerned for AJ Lee, Fightful notes how she'd previously shown minimal interest in ever getting back into the ring at any point over the past decade. Likewise, when AJ joined WOW Women of Wrestling in 2021 - where she served as an executive producer and commentator - she made it clear that she was not interested in lacing up her boots again.

Away from WOW, AJ made a pseudo wrestling return in 2023, appearing as Elle Dorado in a couple of episodes of Starz's pro wrestling-driven drama series Heels. At the time, Fightful was told that Lee seemed nervous to get back in the ring when it came to filming wrestling scenes for Heels, but that, once she got going, it was like she'd never missed a beat. The outlet was also recently told by an unnamed WWE higher-up that, should an AJ Lee return happen, they'd have zero concerns about her having been away from the ring for so long, noting how great shape she's in still, and how she's married to someone who likewise took a major amount of time away from the squared circle and successfully returned.

So, is AJ Lee definitely returning to WWE? That's currently unknown for certain. Is this as likely as an AJ Lee return has been in the past decade or so? Seemingly so...
