AJ Styles' first NWA World Heavyweight Championship win was a fabulous moment for a man who was quite clearly going to go on to become the centre of the company. Styles was the first real story in the company, a man who had briefly flirted with a heel role in the company's early days before settling into the fan favourite slot he was perfect for at the time. Winning the title would see all of this go to sh*t once more.

To win his first world strap Styles defeated Jeff Jarrett and Raven in a triple threat at TNA's 48th weekly PPV. The match itself was fine, your typical three-way with a host of shenanigans and Vince Russo's fingerprints all over it. Russo's fingerprints were particularly visible on the shards of guitar that lay around Jeff Jarrett's neck, as Russo swerved all and sundry by smashing Jeff with the instrument as opposed to Styles.

AJ's title win was overshadowed by a story involved Russo, Jarrett and Sting. Styles was turned heel when he was the only major face in the company, leaving him no one to feud with other than D-Lo friggin' Brown.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
