It may have only happened in the last 24 hours, but AJ Styles' victory over Dean Ambrose at WWE Backlash will go down as the biggest of his career to date. Sure, he has beaten bigger stars in the past (John Cena, Tanahashi, Okada), but winning the WWE World Championship must go down as the biggest achievement of the man many regard as the best wrestler on the planet.

When Styles was blowing people away in TNA, many believed that WWE would never take a chance on him. He was either too small or had been too successful outside the company, and when he left in 2014 many assumed the WWE train had left the AJ Styles station.

When he was winning of Japanese audiences in New Japan the reason changed to his age, and at 38 years of age when making his debut in WWE evidence could have supported it. Age is irrelevant when it comes to talent however, and in his nine months in WWE Styles has proved that he is indeed phenomenal.

Styles' winning the WWE World Championship tops the list because of how predictable yet unbelievable it is. Much like Kevin Owens winning the top title on RAW, it represents an incredible achievement that is thoroughly deserved, but one that many thought would never happened.

The cream truly does rise to the top. AJ Styles is the WWE World Champion, and no individual deserves that spot more.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
